The Heather Miller Memorial

The Heather Miller Memorial Charity

Heather, 21 years old, was home for spring break in March of 2008. On March 25, Heather was the
passenger in an alcohol related car crash. As a result of the crash, she had multiple contusions, broken ribs and clavicle, and suffered a traumatic head injury from lack of oxygen to her brain. One week after the crash and after all life-saving efforts were exhausted, Heather was declared brain dead on March 31, 2008.

She was just weeks away from graduating from the West Virginia University School of Nursing. Heather planned on continuing her education in Critical Care and becoming a Nurse Anesthetist.

Heather was a registered organ donor. Five organs were recovered and four transplanted. She “gifted”
her heart, both kidneys, and liver. Through her tissue donation, she enhanced the lives of over 50
people.

Heather’s Legacy / Our Mission

Our vision is to:

– Provide financial support to students that will assist them in pursuing a career in an accredited Nursing Program

-Support the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE) while making every effort to spread awareness about the importance of becoming a registered organ donor and saving/enhancing lives

-Support Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and their efforts that are ongoing and envision the day when there are “No More Victims” of drunk or drugged driving.

The Miller Family is featured in the pilot episode of GIFTED: The Docuseries!
